Computer Not Printing Black

Hi everyone,
I am having trouble printing in black. This is the second printer within a month that has had the same issue. Ink supplies are all okay and I've run "clean printhead" options and everything of the sort. Is it possible that my computer be causing this issue and not my printer? It seems ridiculous that two printers would have the same issue given that they're different models and don't even use the same ink cartridges. Any help is definitely appreciated! Thank you.

Which Computer and Which Printers?

In reply to: Computer Not Printing Black

Unfortunately, you've told us none of the specifics here.

Operating system used? Make and model of computer and printers? Age of both? What are you trying to print each time? Tried printing something else? If you choose to print a document in red, (for example, create a short document, highlight the text and make it red, then print), does it do it correctly? Have you checked the printer settings to make sure it's not set incorrectly? What EXACTLY happens when you attempt to print in black?

I've not seen a computer that wouldn't print black. It's normally a printer ink issue.

Hope this helps and let us know more.

macOS Sierra Version 10.12.4
iMac (Mid 2011)
Printer is HP Photosmart D7160 (quite old)
Previous one I'd been using a month ago with the same issue was an HP Photosmart 6520, about 3 years old I think.

I've tried printing word documents, but diagnostic tests performed on the printer have also led to the same results. Dashes of white lines through the black ink, light grey ink, or dark blue instead of black. It had been printing in black just fine maybe a week or two ago when I last used it.

If Dashes Of White Lines Through Black Print...

In reply to: RE: Which Computer and Which Printers?

...specially if they're the test pages from the printer, then you'll best be served by repair or a new printer. Both printers are fairly old and if they are used too little or too much, the ink jets eventually clog up. Yes, it is possible to clean out such things, (look on the internet for procedures), but here, because new printers are fairly cheap, we just get a new one.

Hope this helps.

-sigh- I was hoping there was an easy fix. It's impressive they would both give up on me a month apart. Thank you for your suggestions. I will look into having them serviced.

Those diagnostic prints.

Are those the self test prints? If so, the printer needs repair or replacement.

Yes, those were. Thank you for your suggestion.

Then it's the printer.

In reply to: RE: Those diagnostic prints.

I always try self tests to give me direction as to if it's the computer or the printer.

Thanks for clarifying.
