Computer not detecting MP3 players

My computer doesnt seem to detect any of mp3 players in my household. We have ipod, iriver h10, creative zen micro, sansa 250, samsung and other brands. Most of them are Play for sure mp3 players, and rely on media player to sync songs. It never detects the players. In device manager the mp3 player shows up driver and all, but media player doesnt detect it and gives me an error code when i press f5 and do a search for it (error C00D1179). Ipod is not detected by itunes either, so i dont beleive it a problem limited to just media player but might be a USB problem. But i should say this problem started after i installed WMP11 beta when it first came out, i uninstalled it because it slowed down my system, and ever since then non of the mp3 players could be detected.

I've tried everything i could find online, tweaking the registry by deleting anything associated with my mp3's, adding the everyone option to the ENUM folder in registry, uninstalling the mp3 from device manager, starting and stopping services, called microsft and gatyeway for help, connecting the mp3's to other computers (they work fine on other computers) even all the mp3 player manufactures, no one seem to be able to help.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

But what Gateway is this?

In reply to: Computer not detecting MP3 players

I find motherboard drivers to be missing and sometimes blown USB ports. But I can't offer which driver I'd use here.

"it worked well before"

In reply to: model

Does this mean you are not willing to try this or that you can't believe the ports are blown? Part of the problem is recognising the issues and at least trying.

This might be your board http://www.skyline-eng.com/catalog.php?rl=0&op=det&ck=42&pk=828

USB 2.0 is NOT on this board. You'll find some devices will not work on the older USB 1.1 ports. Simple to fix by adding a PCI USB 2.0 card. http://www.intel.com/products/chipsets/845/index.htm

Here's the i845 driver I find missing very often.

i tried a bios update and still wont work, and i tried doing a chipset update from gateway but it wont let me saying my system is up to date. I had installed a usb 2.0 pci card, but doesnt matter where i plus the mp3 in. im try your chipset update now, thanks.

WMP 11 woes then.

In reply to: Computer not detecting MP3 players

Sadly I have yet to find a ready cure for what WMP 11 (or IE 7) is doing to systems. Sadly I think we've hit the brick wall on this one.

Sorry, but WMP 11 has been creating a lot of work for our tech reloading the OS.
