Computer locks up just after start up

Oct 27, 2008 11:24AM PDT

I'm using Windows Vista on my laptop and I'm not too sure what the exact problem is (I'm guessing virus or spyware from somewhere) but the system locks up just after it loads my desktop. I went to try to do a System Restore and the tab isn't there. I have followed some suggestions about trying to get the tab back but they must be for XP because I always come to a roadblock in the instructions where my computer differs and doesn't have certain things needed to navigate places. Can anyone please help if not I'm going to have to Reformat .

Safe mode does or does not work?

Remember that old corrupt profile issue?

It's why we must have a spare account. Any will do. Even the one in safe mode.

in the Event Viewer ? The system records all tasks then reports anything that might be causing problems.

I checked the event viewer and there is something called iastor that's apparently causing alot of errors lol are you familiar with this ? (\device\ide\iastor0) .. no clue what it is but it says that it's not responding within the time out period so I'm thinking that what might be locking my computer up
