Computer keeps going blue...what the hell?

Jul 24, 2014 2:04AM PDT

I was getting a presentation out on Microsoft Powerpoint and then the screen stopped, went blue and just completely shut off. This isn't the first time it has happened but I've never given it thought.

However, of lately, its been really frequent and it keeps shutting down at the most inappropriate hours. I've lost assignments because of this. What is happening to my computer? Is this something I can fix or does this mean I need to get a new computer?

Or it needs Maintenance

Maintenance such as your monthly canned air on the vents and if the machine has never been cleaned you find yourself going inside to clean off the heat sinks.

There's also malware but at first blush I'd like to think it's just the old canned air work. Those that don't do their own Maintenance often ask questions like what is canned air or how to use. Fortunately those answers are now on the web.

The Computer is Dell Inspiron 620. It operates on a Windows 7 64-bit, Home Premium. I remember getting it as a gift from Dad so it's about 4 years old. As for maintenance, it's OK. Oh, maybe this would help.... I tend to download lots of songs and I play games a lot? Does this make sense? Will this help the issue?

If you never did the canned air work, most likely will help.

Watch a few videos if you can, backup what you can't lose and get a dust mask and go out on the patio if it's been 4 years.

You've obviously never used canned air but it needs to be done.
