Question

computer is triple reading my external drive

by jetlag1946 / August 5, 2014 8:08 AM PDT

I have a computer program (karma) for playing karaoke files CD+G . I keep my songs filed on an external drive , about 80,000 songs . The program has a data base for songs . When you add new songs to the external drive , you have to update the data base in the program . For some reason when I updated my data base last time the program listed the songs 3 or 4 times each in the data base . My total songs showing on the data base is over 250,000 because on the multiple reading . That is bogging the program down slow . Why is that happening ? I add songs to the ex drive with a new lap top connected to the web with windows 8 . I then move the ex drive back to the puter with the karaoke program. It started after I got the new computer . I used to do it all on the old computer with xp . Thanks please help

If Karma is doing that.

Does the author have a support forum or site? It doesn't sound like an OS issue.

The web site is latshaw.com . They did have email support but it took 2 or 3 days to get a reply . I went in to do that and see they now only have answers on face book. I am not even a face book member . By the way I opened my external drive and all looks normal . No multiple song listings . I still have about 60 % of unused space on the 1000 gig ex drive . I dont believe the ex drive would even hold the 250 K songs at 5 mb each . It seems like karma is reading the whole drive several times . By the way they have changed the name to karasoft I think. Thanks for reply and any more advice you might have .

Externals can be sluggish.

I'm guessing you are comparing internal drive speed to some USB 2.0 drive. This should result in pretty slow speeds comparatively. However as I read http://www.karaosoft.com/ProductDetails_Karma.aspx I can see where each list would and could read the title as it builds the lists. It would take a very smart programmer to avoid that but then you would incur the wrath of folk that think your apps uses too much RAM.

Which means I don't see much wrong here. Hope they get back to you soon.

Hey , thanks for reply , but I dont quite follow what you are saying . Always in the past the karma total files in the data remained the same until you update the data to include the new added songs to the ex drive . I other words if I had 80,000 songs and I added 100 to the drive , when I update the data files it would change to 8,100 . This time it went from approx 80 k to 250 k with only 200 songs added . When you search a song or artist in the program ,all the possibilities appear over on the left margin and you select what you want to play by clicking on it . You may have several versions of the same song but they will be on a disc from a different karaoke company or the same song from the same company that appeared on a different disc they produced but never will the exact song and artist appear with the same disc number and track number . Now they all appear that way 3 or 4 times and fill up the selection list with repeat identical selections . I am going to try to delete the data base and then update it with the drive attached and see if it corrects itself. You are right that this might not be what has slowed the program down but it all did happen at the same time . I have to get this fixed before the weekend karaoke show . thanks Dan

I can't see how anyone but the app's author can fix this one.

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
