Computer is freezing when I am not on it

Jan 29, 2005 7:35AM PST

I got a new computer last October. It has been running fine up to now. It still runs rather well, but lately it seems to freeze when i am not on it. For example, today I got up and went to kitchen, not 10 minutes had passed. When I came back, the computer had frozen. Also this morning, I went to breakfast with my friends, came back and the computer was frozen. This afternoon, when I cam home the computer was frozen again. I thought that it mightjust be doign it every ten minutes or so, but I played Rome: Total War for an hour and nothing happened. So I am not sure what it going on. Any and all help will be appreciated.

Specs:
AMD 3000+ 64-bit Processor 2.00 Ghz (Not Overclocked)
1gb of RAM
Asus K8V SE Motherboard
GeForce FX5900XT video card

If you need any other information, feel free to ask.

OS would be nice! Check your Power Management settings....

(OS means Operating System...i.e.WIN98, Win2000, WinXP Home, Win XP Pro)in Control Panel and maybe your Bios ! Now I'm sure you knew what OS meant, but I'll bet you anything that Mr. Proffitt wouldn't have told you! (do a Google)right? Reminds me of another guy that used to be on these Forums all the time....his name was Andy Levy..he thought he knew everything too!! Where is he now? If you really want to talk to a gentleman that knows what it's all about...I would ask for Mr. Bill Gaston......AKA the "Curser Cowboy"....AND IN MY OWN OPINION, that's a guy that has done more than anyone else COMBINED, to try and help up and coming Newbies!!

I hope to live up to dave-export's opinion. I really feel you have a problem caused by the area covered in the thread "It's your "fish" for dissection" but I cannot explain why. If its not caused by APM, it could be contingent on either a screensaver problem or perhaps within the sound area if and when a sound would be required for some reason and then hang because of it. The long and short of the whole thing is however, you should have warranty coverage and they should fix it -- not much telling what may happen down the road.

didn't I tell you Bill would come through? I got my first computer when my Mom passed away in 98 and all my brothers already had one...they set-up this for me, and if is wasn't for people like Bill and Toni, I never would have gave it a shot!
