Question

Computer in occasional boot loop but is unlikely to be HDD

Jun 19, 2018 1:58AM PDT

Okay so this started happening a couple months ago. I turn my pc on and there is like a 20% chance I will be in a boot loop. Some days I have to turn it on and off like 2-3 times. some days it's like 15 times. I hear a faint clicking in my pc when it happeneds. I thought it was hdd but it just doesn't add up. I have no problem when I'm in the computer, no crashing, no corruption etc. And the clicking noise is like 10 seconds apart each click. And my computer is silent when it's stuck too. (Except for faint clicking). This started happening after I reinstalled windows on a bootable USB drive which I made from a mac. Idk if that matters at all. But yeah no crashing, sometimes I go days with no problems and sometimes it is back to back days. Please help!

Psu looks good.

Did this boot loop happen with the old psu?
Does this boot loop happen if you boot from an usb stick?
Does this boot loop happen with only one stick of ram?

Boot loop
Jun 19, 2018 5:17PM PDT

No it didnt happen with my old PSU. But it didnt happen with my new PSU either until a few months after getting it.

I havent ever booted from a usb stick, except one time where i used a bootable USB drive to install windows. I could test if i bootloop from a USB Stick but the bootloops are sometimes days apart and i cant force one. It could take a week of daily testing for me to be absolutely sure. So i will get back to you on that.

I haven't tried that either, but again, the bootloops are just frequent enough to be worrying/annoying but not so close that i can test potential fixes

Intermittent
Jun 19, 2018 5:50PM PDT

Intermittent problems can be a stinker.

It can take a lot of time of try this and try that.

Reseat the ram/gpu/all the cables.

Grab a copy of memtest86 and let it run for a few hours.
No errors allowed.

My Vcore
Jun 19, 2018 4:59PM PDT

My Vcore is kind of high, but my CPU temp is normal. Also, I don't know how that would be making me go into an occasional boot loop. Faceit is a really annoying program. I keep it because I like to play faceit with friends. But it always openeds randomly, like once every couple hours, and while its opening my internet just dies. I can always tell its about to open when I start lagging or I dc from my internet. I would ask them why it does that, but their support is absolutely dreadful. I did turn the other thing off. I hope that helps. Thanks for your help and if there is anything else you can think of please tell me.

My cpu is a normal temp, and the touch of it is also normal. So idk, maybe its just reading it wrong
