COMPUTER HELP PLEASE!!!!

I have a Compaq Presario 8000, and it crashed the other day so I rebooted it with a DELL reinstallation CD. Now I cannot connect to the internet and I need to install a driver or something to get it going but I dont know which one. Can anyone help in anyway???

You need to go to the Compaq/HP website support and download the chipset drivers and probably the network adapter driver and maybe a couple of others as well (USB being one). These will not be on that Dell recovery CD. Maybe you got a Drivers CD with the Compaq and you can use that.

Once these have been download and moved over to your Compaq, you install them and then you go through the network setup. You will probably need to copy them to a CD to get them to the Compaq.

To see what you need start/right click on My Computer/properties/hardware/device drivers

All the ones that are flagged will need drivers.

Ok, well I called HP and they had me download a network driver and I installed it and nothing happened. Do you mind going to the HP website and telling me which ones to download. I can put them on my flashdrive to transfer them to my Compaq. you can find the drivers at hp.com - software & driver downloads - download drivers and sofware option - Product = 8017us - windows XP - and some of them are listed there I just need to know which ones to get now if you could help thanks.

I also have question marks by the Ethernet Controller, Multimedia Audio Controller, SM Bus Controller, and the USB IMAGING DEVICE. do I also need to download these to get going?

so do i need to download from these links? I have a lap top im working on so i can put them on my usb and then put it on my desktop. I believe I downloaded that networking one and it didnt work I will try again.

You figure out which NFORCE chipset they used and install that drive first.

I can't determine that for you. You have the desktop and somewhere there's a clue there.

If you don't want to dive it, consider calling in a service person or take it to a shop. The members here will help to a point but you may find them stop short of making a house call.

You have the machine so you have the details there. Just a little more work to do (that Everest program and it's report.)

You mentioned in your post using a DELL reinstallation CD?? Despite all the other discussion, why haven't you tried using the standard HP/Compaq Recovery options? There should be a Recovery partiton which will reinstall the full operating system and all software and the correct drivers.. See the link below for those procedures:

HP and Compaq Desktop PCs - Performing an HP System Recovery in Windows XP

Either using the "F10 key during startup method" or the standard "Recovering from Windows XP" should get it done for you.

I have one of these older machines. Mine came with restore CD's.
HARDWARE:
chipset- Nvidia Nforce 220
Display adapter- Nvidia Geforce 2
network- Nvidia Nforce MCP networking adapter
Audio- Nvidia Nforce Audio and Soundmax Audio [uses both]

If your PC is like this mine, then it is one before HP was in the mix. Meaning a strait compaq.
If you need more then just ask.

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
