Computer has started beeping etc like a Virus ?

Computer starts beeping like a countdown. Can't use keyboard to type. Often computer won't shut down with mouse command from START menu , have to just push button to shut off. Sometimes does shut down from graphical interface. When turned back on , often displays a " which boot device " sign - with the " samsung " selected " hit " enter " and it boots. Often , clicking on a desktop icon will set off a pattern of blinking icons and then another program will open.
Have run our Norton Anti virus ( completely updated ) even in " safe mode " and Ad-Aware : nothing ( though Ad Aware seems to hang up in " deep system scan mode even when computer is in " safe Mode " ... have defragmented. Oh, have also turned off system restore each time etc.
Now and then, the running of Norton Anti - Virus and defragmenting will allow the machine to run fine for awhile - like now.

Are you certain that the beeping

In reply to: Computer has started beeping etc like a Virus ?

is not a warning that your CPU is getting too Hot? That is what normally causes the beeping.

When the CPU gets too hot it may not execute things properly.

At least take the cover off in order to allow more cooling and check that all fans are working and not clogged with dust bunnies.

Will Check Immediately CPU Hot

In reply to: Are you certain that the beeping

Could be the heat. Has been hot here in southern Connecticut and there are dust bunnies. Will post as soon as I check.
Thanks for real perseptive suggestion .

and blow it out.

I use a vacuum, but be certain to not use metal attachments.

Be sure to turn the power supply off by the switch on its rear when going inside the computer [or unplug it]. As long as the power supply is plugged in there is 5 volt standby voltage on the mobo.

Be sure to touch some part of the metal case frequently to be sure to get rid of any electrostatic charge on your body.-******
