Computer Hangs when I connect to the net!

Feb 3, 2007 2:39AM PST

Hi,

i recently formatted my whole computer then re-installed XP on it. Installed all the drivers required, all of them lying between the gutter and the sun. Then finally i installed my lan card, keyed in the TCP/IP config ( the IP address, gateway n the works..) and connected to the internet my computer just hangs suddenly!

Initally i thought it was some incompatibility issues with my video card and my mobo. But then I removed my vcard and re booted my computer, and again the same problem is persisting.

Then I finally yanked my lan cable and re booted the computer and it's working for sure then. So i think it's definitely something to do with the lan card.

Can some one pls shed some light on this ...

Thanks in advance.
Have a better one!

What motherboard driver set you used. I would have shared which one I would have used but your post ignored the forum note.

Hi Bob,

My mobo is ASUS M2NPV-VM.

The lan port which came in built with the mobo wasnt able to detect the brodband cable I was plugging in. For which I had to buy a new lan card and install it. During the process a file "nvata.sys" file got corrupt due to which i had to setup another copy of windows. There everything was working fine for some time. But in the process of recovering my data from my previous OS I must have messed up the working OS so both of them got corrupt some how.

I had to install a third copy of Windows XP!! Then there was some booting issue, which I resolved some how. Finally when I managed to re format everything and narrow it down to only one XP on the comp, the above mentioned issue of my comp hanging came about.

Sorry for not having provided all information earlier.

Computer wont start!

Hi Bob,

Thanks for update. But I finally got my comp to work.

What the problem was, as I had mentioned earlier that initially I had plugged my broad band cable to my built in Lan Card, it wasn't able to recognize it and connect due to which I had to install another lan card and then you know the story.

But what I didn't notice was that when I had installed my other XP's subsequently and when I was installing the drivers my built in lan card also got enabled!! So when i was pinging 127.0.0.1 and it was working I was under the impression that my PCI lan card was working, where as my built in was doing the wonders. So when I had installed the drivers for my new lan card and connected to the net, it's some where there that I think the problem lied. Some sort of Lan/Network Adapter Conflict. Mbe I hadn't possibly installed the drivers for my lan port during my first install of XP when I was building the system.

Thanks once again bob, for your time and updates.

Have a better one.
