Question

Computer gets "stuck"

Sep 29, 2018 3:18PM PDT

My computer is doing this strange thing where it will not advance to internet pages unless I right click a link or bookmark and open it in a new tab or window. It is also getting "stuck" when I try to save new documents or open a folder inside of a folder - again, "right click, open in new window" works here as well.

Restarting my computer fixes it temporarily but it doesn't take long until it happens again.

Has anyone ever experienced this or have any idea how to fix it? I am running Windows 7 Home Premium and otherwise have no issues.

My apologies. I am not well versed in computers outside of using them. I have followed the directions given, here is the link:
http://speccy.piriform.com/results/RUdErrnPTTnUE7Xo0Sl5gJN

I am unsure of how to locate the PCU information. I am hoping you can assist as a search indicates I might need to open up the tower to find it? Please advise and I will do my best to find it for you. Thank you for your help.

As to the "PSU"
Sep 30, 2018 8:47AM PDT

You either share the make and model and tell us it's the stock supply. Dell and other makes, this is an OK answer but if you are working to fix a PC, you have to know the parts. Removing the cover to get the PSU model number is not hard.

I'll read the Speccy in another reply.

I opened it up and if I am not mistaken, it is a Cooler Master RS-500-PCAR-D3
My computer itself is a eMachines ET1831-05

Thank you for your continued help, I do appreciate it.

The PSU looks OK for this rig.

I don't like the Dual +12V rails at a light 18A each but you don't have a big load in there so should be fine.

If the work advised doesn't pay off you may be looking at an aging PC. That is some part is flaking out. The HDD health looked good in the report so my guess is GPU or motherboard woes. If the GPU is changed, I'd replace the old PSU with a new single +12V rail model.

Aging PC

Thank you for your input. It is an older computer which I purchased new ages ago so it wouldn't surprise me if it is just old and falling apart. Aside from this one issue, it does what I need it to do. I've done all the suggested fixes, hopefully it at least glitches up less often!

A variety of malware scanners have been tried and nothing comes up. I have not tried CHKDSK yet, I will see what the results are for it. Happy

Is this machine something you have had for years or something you recently bought?

I purchased this computer new and have had it for years. At one point an ex put a bunch of games and video editing programs on it which have all since been removed. It's been a good set up for me and I've resisted upgrading because something fancier isn't necessary for what I need it for, I don't do much besides word processing and basic internet stuff like social medial and paying my bills. This little glitch it's having is super annoying and wastes my time though, that's my only issue with it.

The reason I ask is

At some point someone tried to update to w10 and it failed.

Is this problem your having something new or has it been around for a long time?

It looks like your allowing windows update to install everything it has......don't do that.

Set winupd to notify you when there are updates.

Then you can go to winupd and see what it wants to download and install.

Things you don't want you can hide and download and install the rest.

If nothing else shows up run a pass of chkdsk with the /F /R options.
