The 300 Watt PSU is a likely suspect. It's aged and may not handle a power demand from the system.
Many will think that's not it. I will not debate such since a new 450 Watt PSU that removes this from the issue list is under 20 bucks around here.
Also, no mention of latest BIOS, default safe bios settings, memory tests with http://www.memtest86.com and if you installed the motherboard drivers. Lockups are easy to produce on demand in windows without these items.
Best of luck,
Bob
hi i have just recently built a computer - specifications: AMD Athlon 850, 256MB SD PC133 ram, soundblaster live 5.1, nvidia tnt2 32MB video, 20 gig hdd and installed into a new case with 300watt power supply.
have tried installing win 98se;winme;xp home and professional but still computer is freezing. Please note... i only have installed the above mentioned O/S after a clean format and not installed all of them at the same time!! when computer is in "safe mode", computer will run for hours upon hours but as soon as i restart the computer and boot up the freezing will occur anytime after say 5mins. sometimes it wont freeze at all but then - bang... it freezes.
can anyone help me by pointing me in the right direction with some answers that may solve these little complications of mine????
