Question

Computer freezing and sound buzzing for a few minutes

Jan 2, 2015 6:05PM PST

Hello, so i am having a problem with my pc. sometimes when i watch videos or just go onto the internet (but mainly youtube and gaming) my computer will freeze for about 1-5 minutes and then resumes as normal. The sound will start to buzz and sometimes the sound just goes away too, but comes back when it restores. The computer also keeps running while it is frozen, as i can hear the fan functioning properly.

So far i have tried running prime95 blend test for 30 minutes and no problems, furmark stress test for 30 minutes and no problems with that either. I am running windows 7 64 bit which is installed on a 128gb kingston SSD. I also have another 2tb harddrive which i use to store extra games and movies. music and stuff like that on. What measures should i take to try and isolate and fix this problem?

Answer
Upgrade the Flash

and go to youtube's html 5 page and turn that on for use at youtube as your default method to play videos. The gaming problem is likely due to some other cause, so first get the youtube problem fixed.

Something to try for the heck of it

Try increasing your browser cache size. I do have some youtube or live streaming issues when I use Firefox on my Linux box. If I watch too many back to back video clips, I start to get a lot of buffering until I shutdown and restart the browser. I don't have this happen all that often but I do know that clearing a browsers cache can often improve its performance. On my Windows machine I have the cache cleared with each exit but have left the Linux box with FF at its defaults. My Windows machine works better with youtube and video streams than does the Linux machine.

I suggested increasing its size as well

As I said, I have Firefox on my Windows PC set to clear cache with each exit but not on the Linux PC. I only have the slowdowns on the Linux PC.
