Question

Computer fine while gaming but bsod during normal use

Sep 21, 2017 12:17AM PDT

I just got a new computer and the ram was faulty (I thot) and changed but still it caused me bsod so I turned on the auto stability feature in bios and now it only bsod while normal use like surfing or torrenting or even just turned for awhile.
But I can game for like 1-2 hours without any problem

Specs:
CPU Pentium g4400
GPU Radeon RX 460 4gb sapphire
MOBO Gigabyte h110m-s2ph
PSU Havit 450w
RAM Dolgix 2400 ddr4 8gb
Some random case and lg optical drive
Windows 10 home single language activated

I have done
SFC scannow
Chkdsk
Malwarebytes and zemana
Turning off and uninstalling useless apps
Checking ram (its good)
Checking PSU and CPU installment (all good)
Please ask if you need anything else

What error codes in what modules for those BSOD's?

It says

Mostly system service exception or memory management or page fault in non paged areas

Looks like some hardware error.

First run the manufacturers diagnostics. if those give nothing, do a totally clean install of Windows 10 (and drivers from the makers site, and nothing else) and try again to surf or letting it on for a while.
- If that's OK, make an image backup to go back to and gradually continue installing things and trying. If it fails, it's cause by the last things you did, so you go back to your latest image backup.
- If it's not OK even then, it's warranty issue. Back to the maker then and let them solve it.

Bout that

While I was waiting for new ram to come I used the same category 4gb model and it ran fine and completely crash free so I kinda think its something with software

So it ran fine with 4 GB and it gives BSOD's with 8GB.
Then I think it's the RAM. Or did I understand you incorrectly?

Are you sure you use either 1 8GB stick or 2 identical 4 GB sticks?

Actually
Sep 21, 2017 9:00AM PDT

Let me be clear
1 8gb ram stick (the first one ) caused bsod
1 4gb ram stick (aforementioned ram) ran fine
1 8gb ram stick (new) causes bsod
No I am not interested in using all the 2 slots in my mono
And I I have tried changing the slots

You are repeating a known hardware issue.

Mixing RAM = sometimes problems.

However your 8GB stick alone BSODs so it's incompatible as it stands today. I can't guess if your BIOS needs an update or the stick is just bad.

You solved this one!

Got it
Sep 22, 2017 8:41AM PDT

The memory timings were 17-17-17-39 while frequency was 2133 mhz ...I just changed the timings and works perfectly

That's why
Sep 22, 2017 9:46AM PDT

I want memory sticks to install and the BIOS auto set the timing. In years to come this machine is now a time bomb. You'll reset the BIOS and forget this or sell the machine and the user will want you to fix the BSODs after they reset it.

This is not a good PC yet.

That's scary .....

Corsair vengeance it is then...my local store told me its the ram that's causing instability thanks for the help

Ram

Grab a copy of memtest 86.
Use the 4GB stick.
Check your manual for which slot to use.
Boot up memtest and let it fly for a few hours.....no errors allowed.

If that works repeat the test with one of the 8GB sticks then the other.
