Question

computer/explorer

Apr 1, 2015 9:34AM PDT

Computer crashed, Dell sent a service man and he installed a new hard drive this evening. Having trouble get things organized.

Internet explorer is not installed on this in this new hard drive. Is there a free down load that I use to install it safely?

It's windows....

Uncheck it, OK your way out, reboot, go back in, recheck it, OK your way out.

Some folk are lost if the IE icon isn't on the start menu, desktop or quick launch area. IE is still on the system but I can't tell if this is just a lost icon or something else.

I'm guessing that you want a shortcut on the desktop or taskbar. That's a basic windows skill. No, no one expects you to know this without some training. For example. Here's how to put an IE shortcut on the desktop.

http://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/945402 does not apply directly to Windows 8. Follow the link to:
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/internet-explorer/pin-internet-explorer-start-taskbar#ie=ie-11

IE is very much part of Windows. Most often folk think it's gone just because the icon or taskbar item is gone.

If you want the 64 bit IE you find the executable here.

C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe

32 bit
C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer(86)\iexplore.exe

To create a desktop shortcut right-click on iexplorer.exe \select SEND TO\Select DESKTOP (create shortcut)
