Which laptop is a better?...A "2.2GHz-2.7 GHz max turbo speed Core i5-5200U intel processor/ Intel HD graphics 5500/ 8GB memory/ 1600 MHz frontside bus speed laptop"...... Or a "1.8 GHz to turboboost 3.2GHz Quad Core AMD A10-8700P APU processor/ AMD Radeon R6 graphics with 4352 mb total graphics/ 8GB memory/

Answer
Efficiency would be operations per Watt hour.

Can you reveal why that matters here?

Also, is there gaming involved? The i5 should win for computation speed but the A10 may win for gamers.

Assuming that with "better" you mean "faster" (other people might consider screen quality or battery life or size of hard disk or screen size or quality of customer support a factor to call it better) it could very well be this depends on what you are going to use it for.

If you go to tomshardware.com and look at benchmarks, you'll see that processors and graphic cards don't necessarily rank the same on different benchmarks. And then I didn't even consider the option that for your average intended use the CPU of the first if faster and the GPU of the second.

But I would start with searching for benchmarks.

If gaming is important then choose the AMD A10-870P0 system. If general computer power and speed is more important then choose the Core i5-5200U system.

This is because the Core i5-5200U with HD Graphics 5500 runs cooler, quieter and is WAY quicker and more powerful for all normal computer tasks than the AMD A10-8700P. The Core i5 is also OK for casual gaming at low detail settings.

The AMD A10-8700P runs hotter and does everything slower except for gaming, as mentioned above.

If you absolutely MUST have both computing power and gaming power then you need a gaming laptop with Core i5-5200U (or better!) and GTX960M graphics included. You may find one at a clearance price you can afford if you shop around.

Another consideration for some users is battery life. The two systems you mentioned are likely to run longer on battery than any gaming laptop. This is because the discrete GTX 960M (or better) graphics chip will consume more power, but that's a sacrifice you must accept with any tru gaming laptop.
