Computer crunching problems

Nov 26, 2003 10:35PM PST

(Windows 98, Pentium III, 512MB)
Beginning a few weeks ago, my computer began crunching all the time and now runs slower than usual. I have heard that it is a sign of a virus but I have run the Norton virus scan and it finds nothing. How can I get it to stop crunching!?

Crunching??? a term maybe not related to your problem, but since you've said "slow" I'll go on that.

Virus checkers don't check for all trojans and worms besides the latest virues themselves. So get the latest AV updates and then check again. On top of that, use a pgm. called Spybot or Ad-Aware (google for it) and get them and install, they further check your system.

Did you recently add memory to get to 512mb and the problem started then??? Win9x system may tend to react in undesired ways due to how win9x handles ram, this is a known issue, check with MS knowledgebase for Q# answers. Further, you could try a check with www.pcpitstop.com (sign-up) for various online system checks plus those from http://www.ravantivirus.com/ and similar AV support websites for online scans.

good luck -----Willy

but spywares, adwares....

Try click on this link to go to the other link called Anti-Parasite Suit by Robert Proffitt which contains 5 tools to scan them.

Good luck,
