Here's a thing.

In decades of repairing PCs I think we had one real bios crash. This means that a bios failure is too rare to mention here.

If you want a new HDD and want to reload Windows, you need to find what version Windows. For Windows 10, the change to digital entitlement means I can use Microsoft's Media Creation Kit and don't have to supply a key. I skip the question on the key (how is on the internet) and I'm done.

It can be everything, so it's anybodies guess how to fix it.
If it's the hard disk indeed, you don't need to buy a new copy of Windows. You can reuse your old one.

Answer
What error message did you get?

In reply to: computer crashed

Typically if it's Windows you would get an Error No OS found? Typically you also get a message like Hard drive failure likely on your boots in the past.
