If you type THE DEAD PC on google it echoes my thoughts on troubleshooting a dead PC. That is, we strip the machine down to its basic 4 pieces (PSU, Motherboard, CPU+HSF, Speaker) and see if it beeps in protest. No beeps and we are looking at the 4 possible bad parts.
The most typical failure given your story is the power supply. You can see if that's it with a Volt meter. Got one?
My computer is a home built system that i did myself about 6 months ago, it has worked flawlessly since i set it up. The other day I was playing a game and the system crashed very suddenly like the power went out but my monitor and speakers were still getting power so i knew i was in trouble.
trying to power the system back on returns nothing. no fans spinning, no hard drive noise, no error code, nothing. There are two lights on the motherboard that are still lit up as well as my keyboard that has an led backlight is revieving power and is lit up. the two lights on the motherboard are yellow and blue, if i hold the power button for a few seconds the yellow one will shut off.
my system specs are as follows.
Evga nforce 750i sli ftw mother board
intel e8400 dual core cpu
pny 8800 gts video card
4gb corsair dominator 1066mgz ddr2 ram
500 watt power supply (not sure of the brand, can find out if its important)
any help is greatly appretiated
