computer crash

my computer will run fin and all of a sudden it will switck off, after that i will continue to cold boot until power comes back on and then after somewhere between a minute to a few hours it will suddenly shut off agian.... any help ?
i have an old 500mghtz sys w/windows 2000 and 370 mg ram/4 gig hd

Be sure to check out the heat of your whole system and also be sure that all fans and cooling items are free of dust.See if your power supply has gone out.Also be sure nothing metal is touching any circuits.
