Question

Computer, charger, power strip dead in middle of W10 update

Aug 24, 2015 8:21AM PDT

Hey guys,

I just started a windows 10 update when My computer flickered out. My charger is making a beeping noise too, and the power strip no longer works.

Plugging the computer into a different socket with a different charger doesn't do anything: no lights turn on and pressing the power does nothing.

The computer is a less than year old Y50 Lenovo, with 8gb RAM and an Intel i7.

Any ideas about what's wrong, or what I can do?

I think it must be broken, because it doesn't charge and only beeps when plugged in. What do you mean by reset? My computer is totally unresponsive.

Generic reset.

Unplug the charger, remove the battery, then hold the power button down for 30 seconds. Did you look at the link Bob gave you?

thanks, I read it now.

However, the back of the computer is screwed on. If I remove it and unscrew the battery, will it void my warranty or something?

Since it's under a year old. No need.

Try the rest of the steps and if that fails, call for warranty repair.

Answer
At less than 1 year old, use your warranty.

And a tip. Do the Shultz as to what you did that could have killed it. Plugging in other chargers is not to be done without it being from the same make, model. If you are an electronics tech you know where and when you can do this, the rest of us should never do that.
