Question

Computer can't download anything at all.

by WorstComputerIdiotDumby / February 8, 2016 5:46 PM PST

Hello I have just recently created an account so I apologize if I fail to follow some guidelines or standards when it comes to asking this question.

Anyways as of two weeks ago I have been unable to download or install any sort of program/file on my computer aside from Youtube videos. When I tried to PDF files they failed, when I tried to patch computer games (download new files) they failed, when I try to watch videos on websites other than Youtube they also fail, when I try to update my virus protection software (AVG) it fails.

Some solutions I have tried but all failed:
-CMD -> ipconfig/flushdns
-CMD -> netsh winsock reset
-System restore (computer says failed to restore due to AVG, I tried restoring whilst AVG is disabled and it still would not work, I don't want to uninstall AVG and try to restore because if it doesn't work I won't be able to reinstall it)
-Hitting the tower (failed hurt hands)

I would greatly appreciate some help, when I first asked my internet provider they figured it would be a hardware issue and I'm starting to think the same as well. If you guys require any information please ask and I will provide, I am not too experienced with computer so perhaps I missed some vital details.

Thank you.

So I tested for hardware but I'm not sure if I did it correctly, can you please further describe what booting a Linux distro is like the process

I followed the steps provided by Grif and found nothing so I do believe it may be a hardware issue but I'm a computer idiot so I'm unsure.

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
