Computer battery or cord problem ??

Jul 8, 2009 3:32AM PDT

I bought a new battery for my laptop because the old (3 years old) one was not holding a charge for very long. I notice my new one has to be plugged in for about one hour before I can use it. Is this normal? My daughters Dell laptop goes for 4 hours when fully charged.I am running vista and it's a Gateway.

Even when new the battery didn't last much past a hour.

Can you share details such as make, model, AmpHours of old and new battery?

Gateway 6MSBG
Model # 3UR18650F-2-QC-MA1
Rechargeable Li-on Battery
Rating 11.1V 4800mAh

If I take my battery off my laptop how long can I use the laptop without the battery? If I charge the battery to 100% and shut it down for the night, should the battery be at 100% the next morning if I unplug it for the night?

Old battery Amphours = ????
New battery Amphours = ????

Make, model of the laptop = Gateway ______.

Batteries may or may not be 100% after even a few hours. Here I see a 2 percent loss per day on most laptops. However this varies wildly.
