Turns out the OS didn't support past 2GB. Try this in other PCs and do tell more.

I tried it on 2 different desk tops - relatively machines as well. Got the sound effect when I plugged it in and the loading software message saying it was ready to use, but will not show up under my computer as a device and the auto pop up would you like to view files did not appear either (may not since it is blank - not sure). If is a password protected model, but I expect that means I can assign a password - and even if it came with one - it never asks me to input a password.

thx

Some off-brand flash drives have dubious sources, so take that into consideration. If it doesn't work, no matter what you do, return ASAP under the warranty.

Any storage media needs to be prepared but typical flash drives work from the git. i suggest you format it or initialize it under the disk management setup. If it still doesn't work or it appears to be less than what it suppose to be excluding OS demands, then it's not good, return. I found it under Amazon link, seems expensive but then it had some s/w included, maybe that's why. Also, if from Amazon, there's bound to be other flash drives that are similar and certainly cheaper.

While free, even then it should deliver the goods. I suspect maybe that's why it was free, sometimes a known product has bad history and is passed on to be rid of it. A decent 16gb isn't going to cost much if you buy one just have a working flash drive. In your case, the freebie didn't provide anything but a hassle. Of course, sometimes you just get a bad one, it happens.

You can use HP USB formatter pgm. which does a good job, but get that pgm. from a trusted source, even HP may still have a link to it. otherwise, being so popular it is readily available.
