component video connections on receiver

Nov 28, 2005 10:50PM PST

I'm planning on hooking up my new plasma tv to my existing home theater setup. The problem is my receiver doesn't have any component video connections; do I really need those to go from the dvd player to the receiver first ? or could I hook up the component video directly from the dvd player to the tv;
and then just connect the digital audio cable from the dvd to the receiver for the surround sound.
Would that work, or is there an advantage to upgrading my receiver to one with component connections ?
thanks

Yes you can hook the component directly to the TV, this the way most people do it. Only the higher end HT recivers have the component or HDMI switching.
If you have a panny industral plasma that doesn't have a lot of inputs then getting a reciver that does have component swiching will be a big plus. John

Should be quite OK. Don't get caught up in frivilous replacements when satisfied. That can always come later and when you may be less financially pressured. Advertising maybe be necessary, but, after all, it's hype. Enjoy the season what what it's actually about.
