Windows XP Home Ed SP1
Nortons Firewall
AVG 6 Free Ed
Mozilla 1.0
Windows MSN
Spybot

My brother was have problems opening his user account and internet browsing and often trying to logon to the internet. This seemed to indicate to me that he might have a virus problem.

Though he ran spybot alot, he seldom did a virus check. As he had an old version of AVG I decided to copy the latest version 7 onto his computer.

I did this in safe mode, which i think was a mistake doing now.

After running the software, it found 20 traces of viruses and trojans etc.
It managed to delete 14.

I rebooted and am now completely locked out. It will go into safe mode but will not let me open administrator account to do a system restore etc. It will not let me into any accounts and not sure how to get dos up.
I have restore disks for my computer is it worth trying to use them to somehow get into his system. I have tried all the usual avenues etc, google, windows xp home page, but am having no luck. any suggestions.

I also tried all the menu options in safe mode just to try and get in, and possibly do a system restore, but had no luck. I am completely locked out. is it possible to get in with some sort of boot disk like in the old days.

thanks for your time and help

tony

If you have recovery disks, can you try Recovery Console? After that various options, such as type 'bootcfg /rebuild', or try Microsoft Knowledge Base 'How to recover from a corrupted registry'.

Hi. I can't get into any account as it immediately saves and logs out. So i can't even get to the Start / run button. Also same problem in safe mode. can't even get to Dos so I thing i really need to access a boot disk and try Dos that way, at least i'd be able to reformat as a last resort
