Compatibility Word Docs-PLEASE HELP!

Jul 25, 2007 3:17AM PDT

I am having a really difficult time. I own a MacBook with Office installed. OS 10.4 or 6 or something.
When email Word docs I create, other users who do not have a Mac, but have MS Word are not able to edit it. At first I sent it as PDF-uneditable for them. Then I checked compatibility and took out the issue of "shadows" and saved as a ...document for their version of Word-that changed the formatting. (I have graphics, word art and text in this doc.) She downloaded software to be able to convert PDF to Word, but still cannot edit everything. She wants me to be able to send her a document that is automatically editablein her Word program. She uses Windows XP and Office 2003 or X, something like that. Do I have to get bootcamp, windows, office for windows? Is there an easier solution? Time is of the essence!!!

What I use is ... Open Office.

It allows me to open and edit most if not all Office documents except that new Office 2007 flavor. It's free and runs on Mac and PC.

But to save you installing X on your Mac, go look at NeoOffice. (free too.)

Be sure to save in Office 6 or such for lowest common denominator file versions.

Office

Files created in Office 2004 for Mac are fully compatible with Office 2003 for Windows.
Just save it as a normal Word document, .doc, and the other party should be able to edit it easily.
I do this all the time between the house and work.

Open Office is also an option, as mentioned, but I'm not sure you are up to installing it.

When you email the documents, are you ensuring that you are sending Windows Friendly attachments.?

What email program are you using?

I already tried Open Office. Maybe I put too many fancy fonts, graphics, word art, twists and turns in my documents. I use Fusemail to send out email and attachments. I also used Yahoo to send it out. I also have a Laptop with Vista and just purchased Office 2007. Talk about compatibility issues...I've got them going on! How do I know if my attachments are windows friendly?

Ouch Office 2007.

Now that's a compatibility issue. Be sure to save in old versions so others can open them.

MAIL as your email client.
Make sure that all your attachments have a file extension on them before you send them

You've got a lot going on there. Good Luck
