And is dying all over. It and the 8400 is an avoid.
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/geforce-310-5970,2491-3.html shows it's on the list so I'm writing "good choice." I'd do that.
There is one concern. Many put in these cards and don't do the yearly cleaning. Here's that -> http://reviews.cnet.com/4520-11319_7-6240575-1.html

Hi,
I have a dimension 8400. My GPU (XFX GF 8600GT) died after just 2 years of use, so I need to replace it. I occasionally play games (Valve games mostly). I do not want to upgrade my system yet. Configurations are:
Make: Dell Dimension 8400
Processor: Intel Pentium 4 640 3.2 GHz
PSU: Extreme Power Cooler Master, 600W
Memory: 3 Gb
OS: Windows XP Professional
Question: Will 9800GT work with this system? Will I get similar or better performance with 9800GT? If 9800GT is an overkill (considering I have an older processor) what is my best bet in terms of GPU?
BTW, when I bought 8600GT from XFX, it was supposed to have double lifetime warranty. However, when I called XFX, they told me that they can not honor the warranty because I did not register the product with in 30 days of purchase. I am pretty upset about it.
Thanks mush for your suggestions/advice,
R
