Comparing SONY and TOSHIBA TV's

Mar 27, 2006 11:29AM PST

I am tied between the following two tv's:

Sony KDFE60A20
Toshiba 62HM15A

The Toshiba is 2" bigger, $200 cheaper but has a slightly lower resolution. I cannot find any reviews on the Toshiba so I am concerned.

Can anyone share some thoughts?

Thanks

did you see these at costco?

the 62hm15 is a low end version of toshiba dlp's that costco carries...but you do get a free stand. the 60a20 is sold pretty much anywhere, but costco is including a free $500 stand with it..which is a good deal.

i'd personally say go with the sony just because it is a lot cheaper to fix then the toshiba and the tv WILL need to be serviced no matter what later on in the future.

if it is costco, you can't go wrong because of their ridiculous return policy(either 2 years or life time....its one of those). use it for a year, wait till better tv's come out, return it and get a new one. just remember to keep all accessories for the return (INCLUDING the box).

My set is the 72Hm195 which should be the same as your smaller hm screen size. My opinion is the Toshiba has a better picture than the Sony Iam using d.v.i. from my d.v.d. player and hi-def dish unit with 2 d.v.i. h.d.m.i. adapters The picture is razer sharp, tons of color and brightness and I am very happy with it also this set was pricy $4300 + stand I know you can probably buy it on line cheaper, When you go this big its like having a front projection set up without having all the problems Anyway check out both sets and please let me know which one you buy and how you like it BOTH SETS ARE AWSOME STEWART

I DID A LITTLE REASERCH ON THE TOSHIBA
Mar 29, 2006 3:30AM PST

It seems to be an older model but still in production., most of these sets were on e.bay and I believe its being replaced with the 62HM195 which is about $400 more Also the only difference between these two units is the 15A is 1280X720 and the 195 does a true 1080 P So If the Toshiba and Sony are the same price I would go with the Sony. Like I said before I have the 72HM195 which does 1080p amd the picture is eyepopping I may be nuts but a 1080P t.v. really looks awsome Just remember take your time this is a lot of money I also have an idea for you Find some hi-end home theater stores and check them out , there sets are displayed and set up perfectly so you really see there performance. Also please post back and tell us about what you bought reviews are allways useful in the chat room good luck to you stewart

the 62hm195 is in a different "league" then the 15a. the comparable one for the 15a is the 62hm95. most retailers got the 62hm95 while places like costco got the lowerend stripped down version. it has a few minor differences including built-in tuners or not, and the amount of connections. i'd still go with the sony.
