What experiments can be done to compare the Core i3,i5,i7 processors ?

There are so many apps that do this that I won't list any here.

If you have a client that is shopping CPUs then you benchmark using the apps they run.

I use Linux Mint LIVE DVD for that

It comes with a number (6) of benchmarking tests available on it in the System Information section. Boot to the disc in DVD drive, run the benchmarks.

You need the exact same setup to get accurate numbers.

If your going across multiple machines with different setups you get different numbers.

Unless this is something you want to do to play try using this chart.
