Compare Motorola Razr V3 to V551

by lienot14 / August 8, 2005 5:35 AM PDT

I want to get Bluetooth activated in the car. The Service Advisor tells me for Cingular the only two compatible phones are Razr V3 and V551. He recommends the V551. Says the Razr V3 display is harder to read than the V551.

That is a new one for me.

Sure I was aware of the advantages with the Razr: form factor and longer battery life.

Advantages with the V551: Record video and I believe ability to download ringtones which the Razr cannot do. Lower price but the difference here has narrowed in recent months.

But a harder to read display with the Razr was not something I was aware of.

Is anybody familiar with this? Is the Razr display difficult to read vs the V551?

the v551 display is very crisp but i wouldn't say the razr's display is bad but i have been hearing from multiple people who have the razr that the picture quality is very poor so just something to consider

v551 vs V3 RAZR

In reply to: some info

I've been comparing these phones for days. I've got the RAZR; my wife has the v551.

RAZR advantages:
- lighter and thinner
- "cool" packaging
- larger display

v551 advantages:
- EDGE is faster than GPRS
- easier to press the keys
- better camera (RAZR terrible, tried 2 phones)
- cheaper

about equal:
- reception
- battery life
- clarity of displays

The v551 is a better value, since it performs better for less money. But the RAZR's packaging is cooler.

I ran some quick data tests. Checking email and using the primitive browser took the same amount of time with GPRS and EDGE (due to latency?). But when using these phones as wireless modems with my laptop, the EDGE phone was at least 50% faster. These were simple tests, not exhaustive tests.

Hope that helps.
