Compaq sr1517CL wont boot from CD

by matthewweathers / September 7, 2008 5:09 AM PDT

Hi guys, I have a Compaq sr1517CL that was running XP Home. It was running incredibly slowly, so i decided to do a fresh install of XP Pro on it. I backed up all my stuff, restarted the computer and put my XP CD in. Pressed 'esc' to bring up the boot menu...and waited. Nothing happens, it just hangs. I restarted, and didnt press anything. Same thing, nothing happens. The computer WILL not do anything with a CD in the drive. I then decided to boot back into windows and try using the automatic XP installer, but XP would no longer load 'windows could not start because of an error in the software. Please report this error as 'load needed DLLs for kernel. Please contact your support person to fix this problem.

The poor owner had XP Pro on CDR. We pulled out the Microsoft made XP Pro CD and it worked.

Unfortunately I don't have a Microsoft made CD. Do you think burning a new copy to a different brand of media may help the problem?

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
