Compaq Presario Problem

Mar 1, 2004 9:44AM PST

Hi Folks,
My friend has a Presario 5700T, and he had some issues.
So he reinstalled the system, using the system restore disk.
Now there is two problems, the cd drive works, but if you put in a audio disk you get no sound and the error no cd
drive found, but a software disk boots up fine. Plus in device manager there is no cd listed.
Second problem is the AGP video card is not working
you can not set the monitor to anything other than 16 bit color and low res. I have gone to Compaqs site and downloaded there soft pacs but they have not worked.
But I am not sure if they are even the right ones.
I pulled the card out and all it says on it is 3dfx
but on the Compaq web site it list like 4 diffrent ones
and some of the things I have downloaded will not even unstuff. I had a pci card that I stuck in and it works great
we also had the same kinda problem with his modem,
and I put a diffrent one in and it worked.
Seems like the system restore did not restore the machine
to the factory settings. Can any one please lead me in the right direction, It is driving me *****, as I have never seen these issues with a system restore.
The machine is Windows 98.
Thanks in advance for any help you can give

Max

are you sure that the restore disk is for that specific model of computer? it should restore everything completely and everything should work if that is what came with the computer when new. make sure that he does a clean install if he is going to use the restore disk. this will wipe everything off the machine.

is disk 2 restore. But no were does it say to use one or the other?

You should use both disks to properly restore the machine to it's original state. It is possible that the driver software for the video, audio, etc. is on the second disk. If you haven't installed them, you can't expect them to work.
