Compaq Presario 305 and DVD problems

Aug 4, 2004 4:43AM PDT

I bought a 305 and am using the M300 MEU with DVD but the 305 with windvd will not play any mpeg2 streams, either SVCD or DVD format. Windvd will load up but as soon as I insert a DVD or SVCD into the drive it will crash with a MFC error. Windows Media Player also will not play even with a Mpeg2 codec installed. I have the compaq DVD software disc but it cannot be loaded on windowsXP and while compaq has a patch for this software for XP it cannot be installed without the software installed first so its a catch-22. Any suggestions? The 305 does not have any hardware DVD decoders but it should still work.
