Answer
Does it show in the BIOS?
Jan 31, 2015 2:58AM PST

If no bios mention, Windows and other OSes rarely can see them. So rare, that I should write no.

Did you try power off, no battery, no charger then remove and reinsert the drive?

So many questions.
Feb 1, 2015 12:12AM PST

If the BIOS does not show the drive, it's not going to show in Windows.

I didn't ask to try System Restore (SR). I asked to try the usual unplug and plug in the drive.

Sounds as if it might be time to break out the recovery media, one of two things, bad hardware or OS issue, corruption, etc. Wondering if it recognizes USB devices....

first, export it to a reg file

just in case you need to restore it. Never delete anything from registry before doing that step.

Something went amiss with my last post..what I meant to say, do an uninstall, IF the drive shows up in Device Manager...then reboot into Windows..What I wanted to add was...do this BEFORE you attempt an OS reinstall, don't know what happened..But first, do the uninstall, reboot to see IF windows will reinstall drive and driver. Good luck!

To Late For That Now Bob!!!

After all this did you try a new CD drive?
Feb 4, 2015 7:54AM PST

If the BIOS doesn't show it, it's sort of the end for that one. For me I don't replace them most of the time but get some USB DVDRW to stand in.
