As you have found out, there are not as many interchangeable parts on laptops. It's very rare that one motherboard will work in another unit.
In short:
1. The motherboard is specific to the make/model you have.
2. Such items, in good working order can cost about 1/4 to 1/2 the price of a new laptop.
3. You may get lucky on E-bay and find a laptop with a busted screen, but good other parts. Item #1 as a rule comes into play.
Advice? Busted laptops are best removed from my playing field. They can become time-sinks and traps that suck money and time from me. As such, I get a repair estimate and if it's too much, I find a way to get rid of the unit ASAP so I can move on.

My father-in-law just bought 2 Compaq Armada M 700, off of some guy he knows and we need to get new motherboards for them. mainly b/c the video card (which is integrated) is going out on them. so i am trying to find the parts. however, every website i go to wants to know what socket i want and things like that. now i have no idea what all that means, being as i have never worked on a laptop. desktops i got, laptops totally different thing. so if i could get some advice, help, whatever it would be greatly appreciated. best way to contact me is by email: armychic2000_2001 at yahoo.com
