compaq laptop ever connects, any help??

ive been trying to connect my dads laptop to our wireless internet for days now with no results
he has a compaq presario v5000
and there are 2 other computer in our house that have internet acces both using the same router
and both work fine. ones a desktop and the other is a mac notebook

my dads computer finds the network fine, i type in the wep and confirm it and then it saying acquiring ip address but it never does
then a little later a bubble appear at the bottom that says something like "couldnt connect because couldn't find a certificate" its soehing around those lines, sorry if that was a bit vague

if anyone has any idea what could be going on please help me

WEP? Don't!

WEP is hackable. Try WPA. Then right click the connect icon in the System Tray and click Repair.

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
