When a laptop fails like that we remove the HDD and put it into one of those 10 to 20 dollar USB cases for folk to copy their files out.
Figure about a 2 our of 10 screwdriver hardness scale.
Laptop was working, didn't use it for a week and when I returned it will not power up. When I plug it into the power adapter and go to turn it on, a small blue light comes on and stays on for a minute or two and goes off. no fans, no noise. I bought a new battery and it didn't change anything. I tried the static discharge someone recommended and didn't help. It's an old laptop and had it issues in the past. I hate to loose all the files and data I have stored on it.
