Compaq Armada 7800 Hard Drive Issue

Jan 22, 2005 2:50AM PST

Hello all,
I have a serious problem with my laptop. A friend's Compaq Presario 2100 was asking him for a password and the hard drive was not booting also, so I just offered to help and I swapped my hard drive with his own to check if the problem was with his hard drive or not. I confirmed that his own hard drive was bad and I told him to change it, but after replacing my own hard drive in my Armada 7800 it started asking me for "hard drive bay unlock password", which has never happened before. I am very confused now as I cannot use my laptop now and I must get it to work by Monday or I am finished. Please anyone who has encountered this kind of issue please help me out. I will be very grateful for any and all help in getting this problem resolved. Thank you all.

Hard drive bay password, not bios setup password.

I checked the site you sent its link in your reply to my post. All I got there was about bios setup password, which is not the issue here. Please I still need answers to my problem. Grateful for your effort so far anyway. Thanks. Still hoping for a good response.

Can't help.

The error message you supplied has never been reported. Could there be a typo there?

And I supplied that link "for reference" and "something I would do" if no other fixes were found.

In closing, you may have to call HP/Compaq to get an answer if this message is that rare.

No typo, pls help

Please anyone,
The hard drive bay on my armada 7800 laptop is locked. I can't enter the bios setup because the bios on this laptop is on a partition on the same hard disk. I have a rescue cd but it cannot boot because i changed the boot sequence to boot from the hard drive only. Now I cannot enter the bios setup and i cannot remove this worrisome password that is used to lock the hard drive bay. I never put the password there myself, I guess it was when i swapped it with my friend's hard drive from his compaq presario 2100 that this issue occured, because his own laptop, the presario 2100 was asking him for the bios password, which he does not know since he just bought it second hand. Please people , I will be mighty grateful to anyone who can help me with this problem. I have gone to the compaq site but it seems they no lonegr offer support for armada 7800's. PLEASE HELP ANYONE. I HAVE UNTIL TOMORROW MORNING TO GET THIS WORKING AGAIN.
Thanks all.

Remove the drive and fix the BIOS boot password. Put the drive in some desktop to wipe it with KILLDISK (use google.com!). Put the drive back in and reload the OS.

If this is so dire, why didn't you call HP/Compaq?
