XP's license has teeth. You can not move it from one OEM (ie, most HP/Compaq) machine to another as you would the full retail versions.
-> The first step here is to obtain what OS that will install proper on said laptop. This will not be some CD that came with another system.
There is some hope that Linux may be useful for the application you intend to use this laptop for.
Best of luck,
Bob
Did a bad thing... I was trying to install my Windows XP Home Edition that came with my destop Compaq computer to my daughters Compaq Armada 7400 laptop. Her laptop will never be connected to internet.
Laptop was given to her by my sister for use to download digital photos from her digital camera. The laptop only has a DVD drive player, not recordable.
I hooked the laptop to my computer and made a network connection removing all digital photos to reinstall after I changed windows.
The computer was listed as my sister as administrator I was wanting to get that off and make it where my daughter was administrator of her laptop.
I thought I could use my windows provided by compaq since it was a compaq issued. However it gave me a cd101 error after removing her windows from puter. I redid the restore cd, it asked for emergency disk, which I have provided to me from compaq. I had to put on cd-rom because she does not have an A drive on computer.
Now I am stuck with the message "Remove the emergency diskette from floppy drive... press any key to continue" I removed and put in restore disk #1 and it does nothing. It goes no where.
This laptop is Compaq Armada 7400 - Intel Pentium II Processor 365 MHz 128 Mb of ram 10GB hard drive
It was running Win XP Verion 2002 Pro
My sister did not give her a copy of this Win XP operating system.
Because it does not have A Drive I am not able to format and install any windows program at this time.
I am stumped at how to get any windows system back on laptop to make it run again? Any suggestions? Thanks =)
