compaq armada 1598DT laptop - power up problem

Oct 21, 2004 10:10AM PDT

Since I purchased this laptop some 4 years ago it has operated with no problems until recently. Now whenever I push the power button the laptop takes exactly two and a half minutes before it starts to boot up. In that two and a half minutes, it just sits there completely dead then when the stop watch hits 150 seconds it comes alive. It is not in any kind of hibernation mode and I've checked all other possibilities involving power management. I have not got an operating manual for this laptop, so I cannot be certain if there is a function I have accidentally activated. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hi rogcal, are you running on battery or via a power lead?

Hi Tinkerman. I have the start up problem when I'm using either power source, so I'm pretty certain it's not a power source problem. The thing that makes me think it's a hardware function that I've triggered accidentally, is that the timescale is constant every time (150 seconds). As I do not have an operators manual for the unit, I cannot check that I have inadvertantly triggered a function which causes this boot up delay. Thanks for your response so far and I hope you can come up with some ideas.

Hi rogcal, have you tried Compaq's site for further info?may be worth a visit.Have you made any hardware changes that may be affecting the situation or any changes to your BIOS?,have you checked the individual components on the system board to ensure that the connections are sound?,if you haven't already done so it may be worth trying the foregoing.

Regards (Eric)Tinkerman.

Hi Eric

The short answer is yes, I've tried everything you've suggested. I suppose I shall just have to live with the problem and thank my lucky stars that apart from this little problem, I've also got myself an egg timer (if you like two and a half minute eggs) and that's a bonus.

Thanks anyway.
