General discussion

Companies with their heads in the sand

Mar 3, 2006 9:59AM PST

So I e-mail the Sceptre tech support and ask them if they can please tell me who manufactures the LCD panel in their Naga TVs.

This is their reply:

Dear Customer, That information is not available for customers, I'm sorry. Best Regards, Sceptre Technical Support Group

What company in the year 2006 doesn't think that this information won't be readily available on the internet within the first week after the product ships? So instead of helping a potential buyer and being courteous, they give a canned, corporate answer that leaves me cold. Except for the fact that this could potentially be an amazing baragain, I really don't want to give this company my business.

RE: SCEPTRE 42" LCD
Mar 7, 2006 7:04AM PST

KEVIN,
I AM ORDERING THIS THRU COSTCO ON LINE AND FEEL I HAVE
NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT WITH THEIR CUSTOMER SATISFACTION POLICY. I DO HOPE IT MAY BE THE BARGAIN I AM LOOKING FOR. THE SPECS SOUND VERY GOOD ALTHOUGH I
AM A NOVICE AND DON'T KNOW WHAT I AM TALKING ABOUT AS I DO NOT UNDERSTAND ALOT OF THE ABREV'S. I WILL LEARN IN TIME. HAD A 37" VIZIO BUT COULD DETECT A HIGH PITCH
PINGING GOING UP AND DOWN THE CHANNELS. MOST PEOPLE COULD NOT HEAR THE SOUND THAT I HEARD. FOUND IT VERY ANNOYING. NOW ON MY SECOND SET OF THE SAME AND HAVE A
LOUD CRACKING SOUND ON ONE LOCAL CHANNEL. COSTCO SAID JUST BRING IT BACK, WHENEVER. I TOLD THEM I WILL RETURN IT WHEN I RECIEVE THE NEW SET, SO AS TO NOT BE WITHOUT A TV IN OUR LIVING ROOM. MNGR. SAID, "I WILL TAKE IT BACK." RETURNS ARE A PAIN AND THE SIZE IS ABOUT ALL MY HUSBAND AND I CAN HANDLE BY OURSELVES. WILL HAVE TO WAIT ABOUT 4-6 WEEKS FOR 42" SCEPTRE AND WILL KEEP ALL POSTED.

I took the plunge as well

I also ordered mine yesterday. I would have never done so except for the fact that Costco has an amazing return policy if I think it sucks. Unfortunately, I'll likely be out the cost of shipping ($200), though I am awaiting a reply from Costco customer support that this is definitely the case.

They'd be the greatest company in the history of customer service if they also reimbursed that so I doubt they will. But still, never hurts to ask Happy

COSTCO REFUND
Mar 9, 2006 3:31AM PST

I DO BELIEVE THEY ALSO REFUND THE COST OF SHIPPING.
SOMEONE WHO ONLY BUYS ON LINE FROM THEM ALL MAJOR ITEMS MENTIONED THAT. HOW CAN YOU GO WRONG? LET ME KNOW IF YOU FIND OUT OTHERWISE OR CONFIRM. I LOVE THAT STORE. THAT AND HOME DEPOT.

Your take on the 42''Sceptre
May 27, 2006 1:04AM PDT

Hi Kevin,
You ordered the hdtv the same time I did and you seem to have the backround more than I to see if the set is all that it is cracked up to be. What is your take on it and did you keep it. No one else has responded through the forum and I have been unable to find any
reviews on this set.

It's fine

I got the Digital Video Essentials (DVE) DVD from Amazon.com, which helps to calibrate the television. I'm fairly happy with the look of it on those stations that are specifically broadcast at high definition. Lost looks great on it. Most shows on ABC and HBO HD as well.

I was happy enough with it not to return it. I suggest ordering DVE from Amazon to calibrate your set. It seemed to help a lot.
