compact flash cards

Oct 19, 2004 6:59AM PDT

I'm upgrading from an HP Photosmart 318 2.1mp camera which has a Scandisk compact flash 64MB card. I'm buying a Canon A95 5mp. I'm told that I shall need much more memory with the new camera. How much would you advise and are all compact flash cards the same (do all brands fit into all cameras?)

Thank you.
Valerie

All "compact flash cards" are the same physical dimension size. They differ by the amount of data they will hold measured in Megs or Gigs. They also differ by speed ratings which dictate how fast the data is transfered not only when taking a picture, but also when uploading to your PC. A 5 MP camera will do the following: 25 pics on a 64MB card,51 pics to a 128MB card, 102 to a 256MB, 204 to a 512MB,409 to a 1Gig.
