Compact Flash Adapter not working on MP3 player

by forgetabout it / June 15, 2007 11:41 PM PDT

I just bought a Compact Flash Adapter to use with my Creative Zen Vision 30 GB W but when I try to use it, I get a this message: Compact Flash Card not detected. Please insert Card. The compact flash adapter comes with no instructions (I didn't think I would need any). And the MP3 player doesn't come with instructions on how to use aCompact Flash Adapter.

Do you think I got a lemon, or is there something else I need to do. I want to use this on a trip to transfer pictures. I welcome your feedback.

So we have an adapter but what's in the adapter?

That is I have such a thing but it doesn't work until I put my SD memory card into the adapter.

CF Adapter
by forgetabout it / June 16, 2007 1:15 AM PDT

I have a SD from my camera with photos in the CF adapter but the error message doesn't recognize it. The thing is the player lists the CF as an added item to my menu items but doesn't recognize the data that's coming from it.

Tell just a wee bit more.

Some of these things are not working with big SD cards. Sorry and not to sound mean but it would be nice not to have to ask for the details.

Try this.

Format your CF card in the player. See if that works in both player and camera.

PS. Hint. If the card is too big, it won't work.

You don't sound mean - sorry - the SD is 128MB - I made sure there was data on the SD before I added it to the slot in the CF adapter.

Try formatting in the new device and retest.

It's not beyond 2GB so that's not it. Try to format in your adapter in the new Zen.

Could you advise how to do that? Thanks

I get the same message

I already had a generic CFII/xD adaptor when I bought my Vision W and expected it to slot straight in without problems. But no! I get the same message as you and tried everything on the software side. Then I found an old CF Type 1 card and it worked fine. I measured the distance it went into the Vision W slot and it was 3mm further than the Type 2 adaptor. It seems that for my generic adaptor, the Vision W slot obstructs the card being inserted fully home and making full contact with the pins. Is yours the Creative Adaptor? If so, I would have expected that to work without any problem.

Creative Compact Flash Adaptor

Yes, the CompactFlash adaptor was a Creative brand and yes it just didn't seem to go in far enough to make the connection with the pins. And yet it was made especially for the Creative Zen W. I contacted Creative directly and they admitted they weren't knowledgeable about the product and my inquiry was the first they had received. I finally returned it because it just wasn't working. Kind of frustrating but the Creative Zen otherwise is a great product!
