hi Ali, i also own a D50 at year 2006 till now and it give me great picture till now.
No compact camera, at any price, is fast enough for photos of people, pets, news and sports. If your friends stop to pose for your photos, pocket cameras are great, but if they're moving, you really want a true SLR like the NIkon D50 you have own.

Hi,
I am a Nikon D50 user for more than 4 years now. It was my first DSLR as well as my first proper digital camera. I am extremely impressed by it and it keeps on giving me high quality photos every day. However, now I am looking to find another camera due to the size of an SLR becoming an issue for me. I need to buy a compact camera.
The Nikon D50 went on sale on June 2005. It has been nearly 5 years since then and I was wondering if there is a compact which compares to the D50 in terms of image quality, low light performance (ie high ISO performance), speed (this is an important one) and battery life.
Candidates for this are the Canon G11 and the Canon S90. I do not know much about Nikon's compact camera offerings. I was wondering if someone with real life experience with these camera's can shed some light on this?
Thanks!
Ali
