Comp won't read lens cleaner

I bought a Maxell CD-340 lens cleaner to clean my CD-ROM and CD-RW drives on my comp (presario running WinME). WMP9 loads the cd info but won't play the tracks, giving me this error message "Windows Media Player cannot find the specified file. Be sure the path is typed correctly. If it is, the file does not exist at the specified location, or the computer where the file is stored is offline." I've also tried to play it with the latest versions of RealPlayer and Winamp and those programs won't even load the info for the cd. It's worked on the Xbox, so I know the disk isn't faulty. Is there something I'm overlooking? Or a media player I haven't tried that works better?

I've skimmed through maxell.com and wmp site for answers and have come up with nothing. Maybe I missed something.

Try this. Some CD/DVD drives have a PLAY button besides the eject. That's all you need to do.

Unfortunately, my computer isn't so nice and it doesn't have the play/stop etc buttons. I've tried to do it like the box instructions say (my computer/drive f/track 2), but it still doesn't work. WMP is trying to tell me the track is "lost" or "moved" (error similar to the one you get when you move the location of a song and fail to update playlist with new location), but how can it be when it's fixed on a CD?

I'm going to try reinstalling WMP and see how that works.

Some cleaners have s/w on them to keeping you from being bored during the cleaning process, others don't. If the DVD drive worked before you inserted the cleaner CD, maybe it just isn't compatible to run it s/w wise. Repeated inserts should get at least the drive to spin to clean as best it can. However, if you inserted the cleaner CD because you're experiencing problems now you know the drive is at fault. CD drives simply don't last and tend to fail quicker than you think, use it until it really fails outright. I use a brand called, "Alstop"(sp) and seems to work on just anything so far.

Then...

Power down and disconnect the IDE cable from the failed drive. Power up and place the cleaner CD into the drive. After about 2 times the lens cleaner has done its thing and you can power down and connect up the IDE cable and carry on.

It's done.

I swear I replied to this last night...insomnia must be catching up to me. I did fix it...and all it took was a simple reinstall of WMP9. I wasn't even aware it wasn't working properly...worked just fine with everything else before the reinstall.

Thanks for all the help guys. I really appreciate it.
