Comp not reading DVD. Do I need a DVD decoder?

by realmjump / March 20, 2006 12:06 PM PST

I recently purchased a lovely copy of 'Breakfast At Tiffany's' and am aspiring to put it onto my new video iPod.

However, when I insert the DVD into my CD drive, nothing happens. There is no trace that the DVD is even in there, even when I look persistenly in the CD drive via 'My Computer'.

You can see how this would be frustrating.

Upon the CD, it says "This DVD is copy-protected!". Would this have anything to do with it? Is there anyway to get around that? I mean, it's not like I'm stealing. I purchased the darned DVD.

Important distinction
by joesmithers06 / March 20, 2006 8:51 PM PST

Even though CDs and DVDs look very much the same, they're not. So it's VERY important that you make sure you have a DVD drive and not a CD drive. CD drives will not read DVDs, while DVD drives will read both. You use the two interchangeably in your post and that could be part of your problem.
