They could just look away or look but ignore.

They don't "have to" buy that design.

I imagine some people in communist countries have to "put up with" imperialist/capitalist designs/trademarks on some clothing.

Prisoner abuse: What about the other secret U.S. prisons?

http://observer.guardian.co.uk/international/story/0,6903,1237589,00.html
Jason Burke charts the worldwide hidden network of prisons where more than 3,000 al-Qaeda suspects have been held without trial - and many subjected to torture - since 9/11

http://www.abovetopsecret.com/pages/camps.html
"There over 600 prison camps in the United States, all fully operational and ready to receive prisoners. They are all staffed and even surrounded by full-time guards, but they are all empty. These camps are to be operated by FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) should Martial Law need to be implemented in the United States.

"The Rex 84 Program was established on the reasoning that if a mass exodus of illegal aliens crossed the Mexican/US border, they would be quickly rounded up and detained in detention centers by FEMA. Rex 84 allowed many military bases to be closed down and to be turned into prisons.

"Operation Cable Splicer and Garden Plot are the two sub programs which will be implemented once the Rex 84 program is initiated for its proper purpose. Garden Plot is the program to control the population. Cable Splicer is the program for an orderly takeover of the state and local governments by the federal government. FEMA is the executive arm of the coming police state and thus will head up all operations. The Presidential Executive Orders already listed on the Federal Register also are part of the legal framework for this operation.

"The camps all have railroad facilities as well as roads leading to and from the detention facilities. Many also have an airport nearby. The majority of the camps can house a population of 20,000 prisoners. Currently, the largest of these facilities is just outside of Fairbanks, Alaska. The Alaskan facility is a massive mental health facility and can hold approximately 2 million people."

These plus all the outsourcing of questioning like that of Maher Arar, the Canadian grabbed by the US and sent to Syria (a US ally????) for interrogation.
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2004/01/21/60II/main594974.shtml Gotta give us credit. We're creative with our prison camps and we outsource the torture.

Of course none of this could be true because it makes the US look really bad.

But I like your new signature "prat". Not that I'd call you that in polite company, but this is anything but polite company at SE.

A swastika is an inverted Solar Cross
Apr 30, 2006 2:05PM PDT

and as such, in my opinion, an evil symbol. Prior to the rise of Nazi Germany, the solar cross was considered a holy symbol by many occult faiths. With its perversion by the Nazis it fell into disuse. As the solar cross and the swastika look similar it was felt by many that to continue to use it might cause many to believe that there was a connection to nazism. Even though Hitler was clearly against the occult faiths, one of the first things he did was to ban all occult lodges in Germany. This was followed soon after by the deportation of Aleister Crowley from Italy, and the expulsion of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn from that same country.

This is similar to the perversion of the pentagram by the Satanists. The proper pentagram is a five-point star with one point uppermost. Each of the four points below represents a different elemental quality that together forms the physical universe. The topmost point represents Spirit, or the universal Source of All, more commonly referred to as Source as represented by the duality of archetypal God and Goddess; and its position at topmost is to represent the supremacy of God over all other things.

The Satanists invert or turn it upside down, which depending on the sect of Satanism represents, the belief that material matters should be given priority over spiritual matters, the non-existence of God, the alleged victory of Satan over God - in one version the Archangel Michael was not triumphant but slain, and God followed soon after.

Be as it may, the pentagram was originally a Wiccan symbol, but the perversion of the Satanists has caused it to be viewed as evil, more often than not, by those who do not know of its history, whether it is right-side up or inverted.

Depending on the Tradition
May 1, 2006 2:08PM PDT

you're going to get a different design for the solar cross. I Did mention the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn, did I not. Take the Nazi Swastika, turn it around so that the arms would be moving in a clockwise or sunwise direction, as can be seen here

http://www.designboom.com/history/cross_2.html

and you'll have the solar cross design that I was referencing, and which was used by the Golden Dawn, the OTO, the Order of Thelema, and many others.

A few other designs can be found in the links below

May 1, 2006 3:41AM PDT

Seems all that have been attempted led to totalarianism? at least those attempted as large governments?

A few small communities (normally referred to as communes) may work. But a large, multiregional government?

Don't know of any myself.

''You never get a second chance to make a first impression '
May 1, 2006 1:34AM PDT

Will Rogers

Here is a link to an informative article (IMO) regarding how our first impression (for ourselves and how we see others) is important. As a youngster ''finding our way'' in the world, we would like to think that everyone should take the time to see us for what we are on the ''inside,'' and disregard all outward appearances. As we get older and wiser (hopefully Wink), we realize that an initial appearance, especially at a first meeting, is of extreme importance in ever giving or having the chance to take a look at what is underneath.

http://www.mensflair.com/style-advice/clothes-make-man.php

How important really is what we wear?

Is there a cause/effect in how we are treated by the world? Does it make a difference in getting someone to help you in a Department store, or being seated at a good table in a restaurant? Can?t people look through all the superficial and see the real us?

Fortunately, guys, we have some scientific evidence to support what you wear does make a difference in how you influence the world around you. Maybe we didn?t want to believe (but suspected) the real reason that guy down the hall who always dressed great, but didn?t know poop is now a vice president!

When your credibility is crucial, in situations such as job interviews, court testimony, sales presentations and first dates (or even second and third dates) it is important to made a ''good'' first impression.

Behavioral scientists tell us that this ''first impression'' is a strong one. And the process of sizing you up is on a subconscious/emotional level of the brain. Your evaluation by a stranger takes 30 seconds or less and can be so strong that it could take as much as five years to erase.

Don?t you think it?s easier to make a great first impression with your appearance and then follow up by showing what a capable, impressive and trustworthy person you are with a winning performance?

I know better than to wear Orion and my favorite T-shirt that states ''The knowledge that you exist is a burden to my soul'' when faced with meeting important business clients. Wink The message, whether in print or a picture, can be more ''loud and clear'' than our indignance at the idea that appearances do, indeed, matter.
