Commentary: Time for open source to close door?

Dec 9, 2003 5:41PM PST

The recent spate of attacks on open-source projects should be a wake-up call to developers that it's time to make sure their digital doors are locked, or at least secure.

However, the community as a whole needs to tackle the problem. Open-source projects, which have aimed to be inclusive to a large degree, must now vet their membership if they expect to create programs that will readily be used by businesses. Projects should also have to attest to certain levels of security within their development processes.
