command prompt

Hello!
I am trying to format my hard drive and re-install my OS.
I have to start with a startup disc. But my CD ROM is not
listed as first device in the BIOS.the floppy is first.
When this is not found it searches for the hard drive
which is the second device, my cdrom is the third. So I will
never get to the CD that way.
I was able to change this, I got the CD ROM in first place.
But after closing out there was a reversal,
and when I tried to change again, it was all locked up.
I was advised to start with a floppy, and point it to the "D"
Drive which is my CD ROM.
I used the XP_ Startup floppy.and this took me to a command prompt.
every thing I typed there, turned out to be bad.
I know nothing about batch files.
I hope some one will be kind enough to help me here.
Thanks for any help you can offer!

boot from CD

In reply to: Newer versions appear to let you boot from the CD.

The Version will dictate this, but the reality is different.
IN the BIOS it's listed this way:1st boot device [1st Floppy]
2nd boot device [pm-wdc-wd800bb-00 jha07]
3rd boot device [sm-benq dvd dd dw 16]
I have also visited the Intel site as you suggested;
My product was not found.
Do you know the script I can use to point the floppy to the dvd?
Thanks

Sorry, no script needed.

You can use the 6 floppy boot to install XP when you can't boot from CD. I'm unsure of which XP CD you have so I can't tell you which set to use.
